| Adirondacks Untamed |
The Adirondacks of Upstate New York is a six million acre mix of Wilderness, Wildlands, Rural Farms and Small Towns, the most famous of which are Lake George and Lake Placid, site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. See images of the Wilderness and Wildland areas in my page 'Adirondack Document'. I began making photographs of the Adirondack wilderness and wildlands in 1970 when I was fourteen years old and my father took me on my first camping trip to Forked Lake, in the west central lakes region. I have camped at least one night a year on that lake ever since. When I was eighteen, I began backpacking the High peaks and the other many wilderness areas in the park. I have hiked, canoed, kayaked and camped all through the park, carying my cameras with me ereverywhere I went. Visit the seven portfolios in the menu above. The images were taken between 1970 and 2009. The Annual Campout Link will showcase a selection of images made of our long time annual Forked Lake Camping Trip. Great old fun! Speaking of Forked Lake, it is a special place in my heart. In June 2009 I completed a streak of thirty-nine straight years where I spent at least one night camped somewhere on that lake. Many of the Morning Mist images were taken there and this June I produced a project called 'Forked Lake Atmosphere'. We had a late June long weekend of mixed weather with great mist and clouds and I explored and photographed each morning and late evening. All the images in this portfolio weretaken with my Canon G9. I shoot many less nature photographs now, having gotten more interested in documentary work, but I still enjoy these. I'd appreciate hearing your comments, critiques and questions. All Photo Galleries can be run as slide shows. Controls at the bottom of each gallery. |
